South site | c.300m x 500m = 15ha | (45d, 21’, 08S – 170d, 49’, 43E)

North site, adjacent to Baghdad Creek | c.50m x c.50m | (45d, 20’, 20S – 170d, 49’, 24E)
Moeraki “Kaike Two” | c. 50 x 20m | (45d, 22’, 15S,- 170d, 05’, 43E)
(Under Crib, cottage area) |
As Moeraki is the site of c. nine major junk wrecks, presumably many survived. The area occupied by the clearly ramparted forts requires a detailed survey to be carried out. It appears that the site has been constructed in fort modules.
Omarama | 30m x 20m | (44d, 29’, 10S, – 169d, 57’, 59E) | 2 |
Rakaia | c. 240m x 145m = c. 3.5 ha. | (43d, 53’, 14S – 172d, 12’, 24E) |
TOTAL NUMBER OF FORTIFIED SITES LOCATED: 30
Smelter operations have been identified at seven sites:
Banks Peninsula: Le Bons Bay, Okains & Flea Bay
Otago Peninsula, by Otaku Golf Club
Otago: Long Beach & Omerama
Moeraki: “Kaike Two”
More detailed and wider ranging surveys around the above sites would most likely result in the location of smelters there, as they all appear to be associated with the exploitation of ore.
