DNA Evidence of Yuchis – “The White Indians of Georgia”
Yuchis – Dr. Donald Panther-Yates, Assistant Professor of Communications, Georgia Southern University
The Yuchis landed in the Bahamasand immigrated to Georgia. Their name is of a central Asian people; their language unlike any other Native American Indian language. They built houses of hewn stone, worshipped ancestral stone figurines and exhibited many signs of Chinese and Buddhist culture. Their DNA is being investigated as part of the Melungeon project in which Don Yates is a partner (please visit www.Melungeons.com .)
They had horses before other Indian tribes – the Chickasaw Pony and Tennessee Walking Horse. They are the only Indian tribe to worship the bull rather than the buffalo.
Dr. Yates has kindly offered to inform us of DNA results of the Melungeon test programme which he indicates “of ten reveals East Asian genes as high as 25%.”
